India (UCAN) -- Archbishop George Zur, apostolic pronuncio to India, has urged Catholic
bishops to avoid hatred and spite amid Church demands for justice, and to make those
demands truly evangelical. Reminding
the Indian Church leaders that they should use only spiritual means to influence politics,
the Holy See representative stressed that any Christian protests must carry "the
imprint of the meekness of Christ."

Observing what he called a recent trend in the
Indian Church to resort to demonstrations, Archbishop Zur said that such actions must be
free of spite, hatred and threats to make them evangelical.

The pronuncio's call comes in the wake of
marches and sit-ins by Church groups in recent years to protest attacks on Christians and
to press for job quotas for Christians of low-caste origin.
